This receipt shows that Walter J. Barchman purchased a blond cabinet Wurlitzer spinet organ with an optional percussion unit and bench at $1,639.25, but traded in a Wurlitzer piano to reduce the cost by $400.
At that time, Griggs was located at 320 Harrison Street. The company dates to 1903 when P. M. Griggs & Son opened a music store at 210 Brady Street. Nine months later the firm was dissolved and Arthur P. Griggs, son of P. M. Griggs, purchased the entire interest in the store.
Philip M. Griggs passed away in Kewanee, Illinois, on October 31, 1925. He opened his original music and sewing machine store there in 1893.
Arthur Platt Griggs passed away on August 21, 1956, at his home at 203 Hillcrest Avenue. He was born on May 6, 1877, and attended school in Kewanee, and college at the University of Wisconsin. ... See MoreSee Less
